Rototom Sunsplash Festival

13 – 20 August

Alejandra Barbé Sevilla and Agnija Kazusa

The Rototom association was born in 1991. Since then, the entity has managed hundreds of concerts, built a cultural centre, organized marches for peace, and created the biggest reggae festival in the world, the Rototom Sunsplash that celebrated its twentieth edition in 2013.
In addition to promoting music in its different forms, throughout Rototom’s history the festival has made a special effort to raise awareness about the values that enables a society to advance in the most just and equitable way possible. The promotion of peace, equality, human rights and social justice has always been key to the way of understanding the festival.

Over the years Rototom has developed all kinds of actions to demonstrate that where there is will, new efficient lines of communication can be created and the convergence of different cultures and peoples from around the world, beyond race, religion, borders or physical barriers and ideologies can be achieved. In this regard, Rototom’s efforts have been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an Exemplary Event for the decade 2001-2010 for their work promoting Culture of Peace and Nonviolence.

This year, our team members and meditation guides Alejandra Barbé Sevilla and Agnija Kazuša attended the 23rd edition of the festival some days ago, where they could spread the word about our Peace Revolution Summit.
