Peace Revolution Summit 2017 Cancelled

Peace Revolution Summit Cancelled

A difficult decision

After careful consideration, Peace Revolution Summit (PRS) Steering Committee has decided to cancel Peace Revolution Summit due to current security situation in Thailand.

The decision was not taken lightly. It came after weeks of monitoring and collective analysis. PRS Steering committee considers that under these circumstances, we cannot in good conscience proceed with an event of this magnitude in February, and that regional summits present the best alternative.

PRS Steering committee  regrets to announce the cancellation of Peace Revolution Summit due to unexpected circumstances in the security situation of Thailand. The summit venue was scheduled to be hosted in Cha-am, where the tragedy of the recent attacks has taken place. Therefore, we cannot risk the safety of our participants and will wait until the situation is stable again.

What this means for participants and partners

We know many people have already committed to the dates in February 2017. Facilitators, speakers and volunteers have been selected and some organizations have planned side events or other activities around those dates. We sincerely regret the inconvenience this situation may cause, and are committed to supporting the summit participants and partners to adapt to this shift.

If you are a volunteer, facilitator or speaker at the summit, you will be invited to join one of series of regional Peace Summits:

  • Africa Peace Summit in Kenya (17-20 October, 2016) coordinator – Timothy Onyango ([email protected])
  • Latin America Peace Summit in Mexico (25-27 November, 2016) coordinator – Gaby Velarde ([email protected])
  • South Eastern Europe (SEE) Peace Summit in Albania (15-18 December, 2016) coordinator – Emilia Andonova ([email protected])
  • Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Peace Summit (to be announced in 2017)
  • Asia Pacific Peace Summit (to be announced in 2017)

Peace Revolution Summit will be rescheduled to 2018, the announcement will be made on the website.

We aim to provide safety and peace for our participants, and we are grateful for your understanding of the current event cancellation.

Staying engaged

We hope you will  continue to engage and keep up the momentum of pre-Summit preparations through Peace In Action Challenge, discussions, campaigns and organizing in the coming weeks and months in response to the situation and to call for peace.
